This is the Gathrings blog. It's mostly a build log.

We're a small team in Montreal building Gathrings a platform for community
events. Organizations create gatherings, people RSVP and show up, and the
connections they make there don't evaporate by the next morning. That's the
idea, anyway. This is where we write down how it's actually going.

What you'll find here

Release notes. What shipped, in plain language no ticket numbers, no
internal codenames.

Build notes. The technical decisions and the reasoning behind them: FastAPI
and Postgres on the back end, Next.js on the front, all of it self-hosted on
Kubernetes. Including the calls we got wrong and had to walk back.

News. Milestones, and the occasional thing worth announcing.

We try to write about the parts that were harder than expected, not only the
parts that worked. Those posts are more useful to read and more honest to write.

Where we're at

Gathrings is in open beta. The core is working: organizations, their rings
(sub-groups), events, RSVPs, discovery, chat, photos, recurring events, and,
as of this summer, check-in at the door. Donations, tickets and subscriptions
are still in development.

Some pages are rough. Some things are slower than we'd like. We'd rather ship
and say so than wait until it's perfect and say nothing.

Say something

Found a bug, or want to argue with a decision we made? The feedback page
is the right place
— we read all of it, and a fair amount of what's shipped
started there. There's also a WhatsApp group if you'd like to follow along more
closely.

Everything here is in English and French, same as the product.
